Recovery Day - Hue & fundraising update

It was nice to have a lazy morning today and not seam to rush to get ready and pack & jump on the bikes. We woke around the same time but read the Internet and answered email & discussed what we was going to do sightseeing around Hue which is located on the Perfume river in central Vietnam.

After breakfast we jumped in a cab and went to the 19th Century Dai Noi Citadel which was the seat of the Nguyen Dynasty emperors from 1802 to 1945. It's a vast major attraction covering an area around 70 KM2 which is surrounded by a moat and thick stone walls. It encompasses the Imperial City, with shrines; the Forbidden Purple City which was once the emperors home and a replica of the Royal Theater. Due to the sheer size of the grounds and our limited time in Hue we opted for a couple of older gentlemen to be our tour guide and escort us around on bicycle rickshaws stopping off at the various sites within the Citadel. Many artefacts from the Nguyen Dynasty were on display within the buildings although we weren't allowed to take any photos which was very disappointing but we throughly enjoyed the experience along with learning some history. Outside the Citadel walls was a military museum with lots of military hardware from the Vietnam war on display.

Fundraising Update

Six Months ago when I started planning this 2000KM unsupported bicycle ride across Vietnam I decided to help raise money for St Catherine's Hospice, which looks after and cares for people with serious illness such as cancer, heart failure, motor neurone disease & Parkinson disease. Initially we set a target of £ 2000 which to date we raised £ 2059.14. If we could raise more it would be for a good cause and if you like our blog and our unsupported challenge we would be grateful if you would donate no matter how large or small of a donation to our Justgiving page ( on first blog post ) or contact myself or Alex personally were you can sponsor us. stuart.cooper@silverchic.net. 100% proceeds go to St Catherine's Hospice.
